#50by50ish #41 – Go-karting
I like go-karting, but I don’t go very often. We tried to do a big indoor one for my bachelor party, ten years ago, but didn’t realize it was so popular that you actually have to make reservations for it. Reservations at a GO-KART track? Really? Umm, no. And I’ve been wanting to go a few times in the last few years, but really wanted Jacob to go. We’ve been debating the setup for various places as he got bigger — is there enough room in the car to go with us and feel comfortable vs. would he be big enough to drive on his own? He wanted to go in a car, not be solo, so we wanted to find one that worked well for him.
Back in August, we were out and about for the day, looking for something to do, and I realized we were close enough to try Karter’s Korner out by Stittsville. It’s an Ottawa institution, with mini-golf, an arcade, and the go-kart track. There are persistent rumours it will close “any day” so we headed out to give it a try. Jacob was able to ride with Andrea (a double-seater), and I took a second car.
These are very basic cars, not a lot of speed, and the track was ROUGH. I felt like every single bump was being telegraphed to my spine. Andrea and Jacob apparently felt the same way. But it was still fun. Check out the photos of Andrea and Jacob:

Those smiles tell me “Mission accomplished”. I’m looking forward to him being just a year or two older (and an inch or two taller) so he can drive on his own. Although he still wants his first car to be a Lamborghini, so maybe I shouldn’t be encouraging him.
