I have been having a strange recurring thought over the last few weeks. It isn’t a new thought, it’s more an occasional thought that has come up with previous experiences that become clearer in hindsight than they were in the actual moment.
Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not talking about not seeing something in a moment, and then realizing days later. I mean events that you have experienced, went through with planning and awareness, carefully considered things, thought about them before and afterwards, and then later, something twigs your memory and you think, “Huh. That’s weird.”
I have an experience with a friend from back in the day that didn’t go the way I had hoped.… Read the rest
We have decided to retire our existing bread machine that is at least 15 years old, after Andrea discovered that there was some light corrosion on the inside of the baking apparatus. It is underneath the structure that actually holds the baking pan, nowhere near the food, but it is still “in” the machine, so safer to jettison for health and safety reasons. I knew that everyone went crazy on bread early during the pandemic, and stores are still low on yeast. But I hadn’t anticipated a complete lack of any bread makers being left. Sure, I’d thought there would be some scarcity, but not a complete absence of options.… Read the rest
Note: The following is a guest blog from my wife, Andrea.
Hi, me again.
In my previous post, I described why I want more hobbies, what my current hobbies are, and how I did some research and crowdsourcing to come up with some new ideas and considerations.
I made a rather long list of possible hobbies, and organized them by my level of interest. Obviously, I’m not going to be doing all of these things at once! Maybe you’ll see something here that interests you too.
Things I want to do in the short term (1-2 months):
Making photo books: I have made a few photo books in the past, including one for my mom (and me) from our trip to Italy last year.
Note: The following is a guest blog from my wife, Andrea. I need a hobby. To be clear, I have a few hobbies, but I need a few more fun things to do with my time, particularly at home at night after my son Jacob goes to bed, and on the weekends. I also need to focus more on my hobbies and doing things that I enjoy. Let’s rewind a bit. If I reach waaaaaay back in my memory to before Jacob was born, I think I had more hobbies, and more time and energy to do them. I used to read more, knit, call friends on the phone, play games with my husband, go out with friends more often, etc.… Read the rest
My wife and I enjoy the NAC Orchestra shows, particularly the Pops, and if it wasn’t for simple cost and logistics, we’d sign up for them every year. Instead, we pick and choose the shows we want along with some others. With 17 shows across multiple venues, this was outing #2 this year. The theme for the night? The music of John Williams, namely from all his soundtracks of the greatest hits of films.
Up first was the Main Title from Star Wars (1977), and it’s a great blockbuster opening. From there, they slid into Superman March from Superman (1978). Just those two alone would be worth the price of admission for some people, including me.… Read the rest
