Andrea and I have gone to the Casino du Lac Leamy’s fireworks show in the past, and we’ve been wanting to take Jacob for awhile. There’s been a small problem though — Jacob wasn’t that thrilled with fireworks at the cottage. He felt they were “too loud” and while he has been getting more comfortable with them, too much sensory input can sometimes overwhelm him, particularly for noise. Don’t get me started on the loud whine of bathroom dryers on his poor little ears.
But he was interested in trying the fireworks shows, and it just didn’t work out for schedule this summer with holidays, trips, and day camps. However, we do usually try to catch a baseball game for the Ottawa Champions at least once a year. I know what you’re thinking, “What the heck does that have to do with a fireworks show?”
Well, once a month, on a Saturday night, they play the game from about 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and then after the game, they put on a fireworks show. I really wasn’t expecting much of anything, but we were already planning to go to a game, so we scheduled our outing on a night where we could have both. The game was a rout for the Champions — I think the other team had their first baseman pitching near the end — and then it was time for the fireworks.
Jacob and I moved from the third row seat we were occupying up towards the top of the stadium so that we wouldn’t have to crane our necks quite so far (and potentially move a bit farther back from the pop/noise), and then sat back to watch the show. I would have liked a muzzle for a couple of the yahoos sitting near us, but honestly, they were there first. I rotated the camera after a couple of seconds to go vertical, so the layout and format had to be converted. Enjoy.
Jacob REALLY liked it. So I think we’re in for the casino-sponsored shows by the museum next summer!
