While some of the 50by50 list is about big things or trips, or organizational things for me to improve my life a bit, there are others that are more “simple pleasures”. Some are simply about food — an 8-layer nacho recipe, for example. Or reading a book in a new genre. This one is even more basic.
I like Xmas lights. I don’t have them on our house just cuz I’m a lazy git with little talent for ladders and hooks and things, oh my, but I really quite like them. We’ve been out to Orleans to see the one street that is alive with lights, and a few years ago we went to Upper Canada Village at New Years to see their display. But I wanted something a little more aggressive, shall we say.
The Magic Lights display on the way to Kanata would fit the bill. We were on our way back home one afternoon after swim lessons for the cub, and I wondered if we could scoot over and give it a try. It was late on a Sunday afternoon in early December, and I was hoping we might be able to slip in while everyone was off having supper. Surprisingly, it worked pretty well. The “line” was almost non-existent, with only a few cars ahead of us. We paid online with our phone (which gave us a discount), showed them the online receipt with bar code, and we were in.
I didn’t really know what to expect, not having been there before, but basically it is a small campground with a winding road all the way through it. A couple of kilometers of road, with Xmas light displays dotting the landscape all the way along. It was more than worth it.

I confess. I felt like a little kid going through it. I wanted to go again, almost immediately. I can easily see this being an annual tradition for me.
