Trip to Playa del Carmen – Day 6 of 9
After the previous day’s long series of packaged events, we wanted a bit of a quiet day for day 6 of our trip. I was relieved to find out that my screaming knees from the day before, which often make their presence felt for 2 or 3 days, were not in attendance and I didn’t need my knee support for the rest of the trip.
Laguna for breakfast
Peacock parade
Went to beach – walked in big waves (J,A), wave spanking !! 🙂
A&J sat in waves, J played in waves – bee sting 🙁
Leaf grasshopper
One of the nice things about the Eco resort was that occasionally, just walking along, you’d see raccoons, coati (kind of like a raccoon with a long monkey-like tail), spider monkeys, or in this case, peacocks.

We changed for the beach and went for a walk on the shore. Pretty big waves, and we got spanked a few times walking around in water up to our butts. Afterwards, A&J sat in the waves for awhile together and then A and I sat on the loungers while he played in the water by himself. He found a small piece of glass, and he had a small mark on his leg like he cut himself, no big deal, but we had the little lifeguard look at it for basic first aid. It wasn’t glass that cut him or caused the mark. The guy used little bitty tweezers and pulled out a stinger — a bee had stung him. The guy said it wasn’t really bee season, but it isn’t uncommon on the beach. He even gave J a little grasshopper that he had made out of a leaf, which we all thought was pretty cool looking.

Lunch at nest — swings !! 🙂
ping-pong (P&J), J
swimming in pool (A & J, P read*)
J&P went back to room, A read on beach
shower
Mexican buffet for dinner
We grabbed lunch at the Nest, and J and A tried out the swings to sit on around the outside of the snack bar. J and I played a short game of ping pong, although more accurately, we chased each other’s shots after they went off the table. J wanted to go to the pool, and A was game too, but honestly, I just wanted to sit on the beach in the shade and look out at the water while I read and sipped Shirley Temples. After playing in the pool, J was a bit cold, so he and I headed back to the room while A stayed behind (only briefly unfortunately for her) to read a bit on the beach.

We all needed showers, and then we headed to the Mexican buffet for dinner. I still find it odd that most of the time, the buffet was far from busy. Maybe it was busier at lunch, we never tried it at midday, but it was decent food and a welcome change from Laguna all the time or dealing with the delays at the other restaurants. I had dropped off the letter to the manager in the morning, and thought there *might* have been some sort of response that day, but nada. Which was the same the next two days too. No acknowledgement, nothing. I only mention it here in part because it affected our planning. I kept hoping the resort would give us a reservation or two at the Mediterranean or Brazilian places, but they didn’t, so we went for Mexican instead.
A nice relaxing “down” day and I confess I could sit on that beach any day of the week, sip drinks and read. Which was a bit of a surprise in some ways…I would never have described myself as a “beach” person, but it sure was relaxing.
