User registrations
I do not accept user registrations on the site, except to the extent required to provide comments or to complete contact / subscription forms as outlined below.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
Aksimet is used for anti-spam detection. They collect information about visitors who comment on Sites that use their Akismet anti-spam service. The information they collect includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).
Contact and subscription forms
I have a basic contact form and I collect the data shown in the contact form as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Cookies
If you leave a comment on my site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Caching
This site utilizes caching (WP Super Cache as well as server-level Litespeed caching) in order to facilitate a faster response time and better user experience. Caching potentially stores a duplicate copy of every web page that is on display on this site. All cache files are temporary, and are never accessed by any third party, except as necessary to obtain technical support from the cache plugin vendor. Cache files expire on a schedule set by the site administrator, but may easily be purged by the admin before their natural expiration, if necessary.
Analytics
I use web traffic counters with WordPress.com and Google to count page hits and refreshes, as well as internal plugin tools that count the number of words in comments, pages, etc.
Who I share your data with
Nobody. It’s just me. I host my site on WHC.ca and accept no advertising nor participate in any affiliate referral programs (although I am linked to GoodReads and Flickr so I can post my reviews with photos of book covers). I also receive no data from any third-parties. I only have what you give me, and except for anti-spam detection or asking you to confirm a subscription request, I don’t attempt to validate it.
How long I retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, if approved. Once approved, I don’t delete comments unless requested.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where I send your data
Generally, nowhere, but visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, such as Akismet (mentioned above).
My contact information
My contact information is simple — following the traditional “user@webdomain” format, my address is “polywogg” as the user, the @ symbol, and polywogg.ca as the webdomain. Or you can use the contact form on the website itself.
