Trip to New England, 2023 – Day 17 – Home to Ottawa (Goal 60×60.42.17)

The PolyBlog
September 4 2023

Day 17 — time to go home (photos 1-2). We stuck to the tradition of the trip, snapping some shots as we entered Ottawa (photos 3-5). And then one final one in our driveway at the end of the trip (photo 6). It was another 341 km for the day, and only 6 photos with no curation.

The table is a basic summary of what we recorded for travel and photos for the trip. Days 14-16 were really just a “cottage addon”, but it was all part of the same trip, so I’ve included them in the totals.

The car’s mileage shows about 4300+ km for the trip, with 3970 accounted for above. Some of the trip estimates leave out little side trips or detours, so that is probably about right. Call it about 4,300 km over the 17 days, a bit more than the distance when Andrea and I did Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, PEI, NB and back to Ottawa in a shorter timeframe (3900/4000 km). A separate trip to Saguenay and Gaspésie was a much lighter 2700 km.

For photos and videos, we took 4500+ shots, about 1 per km it seems. Of which I curated them down to 1578, although I wasn’t particularly ruthless with butterflies, mountains, falls or even tubing at the cottage. Andrea will still have her work cut out for her if she’s going to make a photo book from the collection of 1500, not including various videos.

It was an amazing trip, but I’m glad to be home.

Book clubs 2026-08: Getting back on track in AugustAugust 26, 2026
You might have noticed I’m a bit late again this month — I’m working on a big project related to my Calibre database, which has slowed me down; I was hoping to finish it quickly and get back to my book clubs. I didn’t, and it’s still going, but I wanted to get my lists … Continue reading →

Book clubs 2026-07: The noise drowned me outAugust 22, 2026
I worked on the list of books for July back in July, even though I wanted to just sit on the back deck and read all summer. I’d have invited you over, but, well, (shaking Kindle), “Book!”. But life got away from me, and I never did post the July list. As I mentioned in … Continue reading →

Saying goodbye to my nephew BrianJuly 3, 2026
Last night, we had a celebration of life for my nephew Brian. He was 51. There was a good turnout, as the saying goes, of family and friends. A group that Brian himself would have felt was too large and too much fuss. And as I looked at the picture boards that his sister Julie, … Continue reading →
