JotD: Serving lawyers (PWH00065)

The PolyBlog
June 11 2025
A man walks into a bar with an alligator under his arm and asks, “Do you serve lawyers here?” “Sure, we do,” says the bartender. “Good,” says the man. “I’ll have a beer and give me a lawyer for my alligator.”

JotD: Obituary for Pop N. Fresh (PWH00025)

The PolyBlog
June 10 2025
Veteran Pillsbury spokesman Pop N. Fresh died yesterday of a severe yeast infection. He was 71. Known to friends as Brown-n-Serve, Fresh was an avid gardener and tennis player. Fresh was buried in one of the largest funeral ceremonies in recent years. Dozens of celebrities turned out including Mrs. Butterworth, the California Raisins, Hungry Jack, Aunt Jemima, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Skippy. The graveside was piled high with flours as longtime friend Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Fresh as a man who “never knew how much he was kneaded.” Fresh rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes — conned by those who buttered him up. Still, even as a crusty old man, he was a roll model for millions. Fresh is survived by his second wife. They have two children and another bun in the oven. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

JotD: Missionaries (PWH00019)

The PolyBlog
May 30 2025
Two missionaries in Africa get apprehended by a tribe of very hostile cannibals who put them in a large pot of water, build a huge fire under it, and leave them there. A few minutes later, one of the missionaries starts to laugh uncontrollably. The other missionary can’t believe it! He says, “What’s wrong with you? We’re being boiled alive! They’re gonna eat us! What could possibly be funny at a time like this?” The other missionary says, “I just peed in the soup!”

JotD: Donald and Minnie (PWH00014)

The PolyBlog
May 29 2025
Donald Duck and Minnie Mouse were up in a hotel room and decided that they wanted to have sex. Well, the first thing Minnie asks is “Do you have a condom?” Donald says “No”. Minnie tells Donald that if he doesn’t get a condom, they can’t have sex, so she suggests that Donald go buy one. She says that maybe they sell them at the front desk. Donald proceeds to go downstairs and gets to the front desk. He asks the hotel clerk if they sell condoms. The clerk says, “Yes, we do,” and pulls one out from under the desk and gives it to Donald. “Would you like me to put that on your bill?” Donald says, “NO! WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM, SOME KIND OF PERVERT?”

Green Curry Chicken with Eggplant and LemongrassJune 12, 2026
Green Curry Chicken - This is one of my favourite dishes, compliments of a cooking course through the local public school board. I have rated it "medium-to-hard" for the level of difficulty but that is a bit misleading. The individual steps are not particularly difficult, nor is the sequencing, but there are a significant number of detailed steps (including sous-chef preparations) and it takes a long time to prep and cook; it is definitely not a "quick weeknight meal". I have also rated it "mild" for spice, and I do not have a particularly high threshold.

    It’s not you, it’s me: my first book-club breakupJune 12, 2026
I have over 40 general book clubs that I follow, with several having sublists / groups. My intent when I started was to see what was out there and get out of my reading comfort zone, at least insofar as I would see what was on offer. I combed through 2025, and the first six … Continue reading →

Bestseller lists 2026-06: Round up the usual suspectsJune 11, 2026
I feel like I’m having an old gangster movie flashback sequence where maybe Humphrey Bogart, James Cagney or Edward G. Robinson are talking to some wiseguys, see, and they’re gonna listen, see. I went all in this month, see, casing every joint, err, bestseller list in town. Get the lay of the land, see. That’s … Continue reading →

Book clubs 2026-06: A birthday buffet too rich to finishJune 10, 2026
Ah, the fresh scent of June and my birthday month. There are lots of interesting books for me to consider reading on my birthday. First, though, there are some gifts from last month that weren’t posted in time for my roll-up, even though I said no to all of them! I’ve also been wondering about … Continue reading →

Leveling up – Three kitchens, one frogMay 28, 2026
Let me start with a confession. I only have 12 recipes on the website. Not much of a start, right? But this is part of my anal-retentive side. I like to curate recipes, find some good ones, and then put them on my blog. Except that I have hated the design of my recipes for … Continue reading →
