Fearless Fourteen by Janet Evanovich (2008) – BR00110 (2017) – 🐸🐸🐸βšͺβšͺ

Plot or Premise

Morelli’s cousin committed a robbery years ago and the money was never found. Now people think it is hidden in Morelli’s house and everybody wants some of it.

What I Liked

The story generally revolves around providing security for an aging country star, and it’s an interesting diversion. In addition, Stephanie is looking after a teenager that may or may not be Morelli’s illegitimate son.

What I Didn’t Like

There’s a stalker running around the story, which everyone thinks is funny, not sure why.

The Bottom Line

Good story, not the most compelling.

Plot or Premise

Ranger needs Stephanie to find out what’s going on with Dickie Orr, her ex-husband. Which she does, in normal Stephanie fashion – she brings the crazy.

What I Liked

Dickie going missing is no big deal, but at least it’s the basis for a decent plot. Sort of, anyway. But the exploding taxidermy makes up for it. Plus everyone’s views on the cable company.

What I Didn’t Like

Very little — even Joyce and Dickie were okay this go around. The flamethrower was a bit over the top though.

The Bottom Line

Good addition with lots of extra but useful characters.

Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich (2006) – BR00108 (2017) – 🐸🐸🐸🐸βšͺ

Plot or Premise

Ranger’s daughter is kidnapped and Stephanie wants to help. Of course, the arrival of Ranger’s supposed wife puts a small crimp in their relationship. And there’s a fake extra Ranger running around!

What I Liked

The extra help around the office is fun, as is the interviewing of extra bounty hunters. And Ranger is acting very un-Ranger-like, very off-balance which is interesting.

What I Didn’t Like

The whole extra storyline with Lulu, Sweet, Grandma and a band was pretty extraneous.

The Bottom Line

A little different from the norm, not a bad thing.

Plot or Premise

Cover: Eleven on Top by Janet Evanovich

Stephanie’s had enough of the bounty hunter business, so she quits and takes a series of jobs around Jersey. Meanwhile, someone’s hunting her with threats, shots, and car bombs. Could it be the undertaker’s son?

What I Liked

All the various jobs going to heck in a handbasket are a hoot, not to mention Stephanie telling people she plays the cello, which they now want her to do at the wedding. And things really heat up when Stephanie starts working at Rangeman.

What I Didn’t Like

The plot with a bunch of missing businessmen takes a long time to gel, but not really a problem.

The Bottom Line

The plot with a bunch of missing businessmen takes a long time to gel, but not really a problem.

Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich (2004) – BR00106 (2017) – 🐸🐸🐸🐸βšͺ

The PolyBlog
September 2 2017

Plot or Premise

Ten Big Ones is the tenth outing in the Plum series, and this one has Stephanie starting a mini-war with a gang after she sees one of them committing a robbery.

What I Liked

Hijackers of chip trucks, Sally Sweet still in a dress, and school buses all show up to enliven the plot.

What I Didn’t Like

The whole shower thing for Valerie gets old real fast, adding nothing to the story. And I don’t really care about wannabe gang kingpins.

The Bottom Line

Not bad, good ending.

  • Book clubs 2026-05: May the rigour be with you (it wasn’t with me)May 22, 2026
Ah, April showers have brought us May books. Wait, that’s not the right saying. I’ll get back to you on that. Remember last month when I said I was going to show rigour? Well, that didn’t happen. With the larger intake base, I have 119 entries for consideration this month. Of which, I only said … Continue reading →
  • Cleaning up book club lists for January to AprilMay 21, 2026
In my last post, I noted that I’m monitoring 40+ book clubs for “new to me” titles to consider putting on my TBR pile. There is an inherent challenge that I’m saying yes or maybe to between 15-20% of the titles, which is WAY MORE BOOKS THAN I CAN READ. I’ll have to trim those … Continue reading →
  • Book clubs — Missed books in 2025May 21, 2026
I mentioned earlier that I have a list of 40+ book clubs that I’m monitoring for “new to me” books to consider for my To Be Read (TBR) pile. I went through all of 2025, made a list of ones that interested me, and posted it. But it wasn’t the best of lists. I didn’t … Continue reading →
  • Leveling up: Memes, postcards and flashcardsMay 13, 2026
So, I have two giant premises working against me here: Yet, every guru on anything web-related has said the same thing for the last fifteen years — that blogs and posts are only successful with eye candy. I’ve played with the formats of posts over the years in certain categories, trying to get them to … Continue reading →
  • Leveling up: Retirement contentMay 6, 2026
As I mentioned yesterday, I’m doing a “content” review of my websites to see if there are areas I should be expanding or contracting, comparing them to other blogs and posts that are out there. I would like to do more on retirement as I transition out of the public service, but I am always … Continue reading →
